National Book Store invites you to join a celebration of great literature at the 2017 Philippine Readers and Writers Festival. It will take place at Raffles Makati from August 25 to 27, 2017.
Admission is free, and this three day event features bestselling international and local authors, as well as book signings, discussions, and panels about books, literature, and culture. Two of the international authors joining this year’s festival are Pierce Brown and Mark Danielewski.
Danielewski is a novelist with several award-winning books, but is best known for his debut novel ‘House of Leaves’ which won the New York Public Library's Young Lions Fiction Award in 2000. It follows a family that encounters an awful darkness in their new home and features experimental choices in form like colored words, handwritten pages, doodles, and drawings. His other works include the novella ‘The Fifty Year Sword’ and the ongoing 27-volume serial novel ‘The Familiar’. His Author Spotlight event is at 4 pm on August 26.
Brown is the author of the bestselling ‘Red Rising’ trilogy, a science fiction - fantasy comparable to the likes of ‘Ender’s Game’ by Orson Scott Card and ‘The Hunger Games’ by Suzanne Collins. The three books - ‘Red Rising’, ‘Golden Son’, and ‘Morning Star’ - follow a lowborn miner named Darrow who seeks to take revenge on the ruling class of their futuristic society. His next series, Iron Gold, is a sequel to the events of the Red Rising trilogy and will be released in 2018. His Author Spotlight event is at 2 pm on August 27.
A multitude of local authors and artists will also be joining the festival, including Pete Lacaba, Edcel Lagman, Lloyd Cadena, June Digan, Raymund Isaac, Francis Kong, Rod Marmol, Charissa Ong, Shakira Sison, Abbey Sy, Jomike Tejido, and Tippy Go.
